Spring’s arrival on the prairies ~

The first day of spring always makes me happy. Today it seems even more so. After a few days of below-freezing weather, I woke to a beautiful sight. Not only was the sun shining, but the trees were covered in hoarfrost. In late morning, Pinktulips2I sat out in the garden and watched the hoarfrost drift down from the trees. It was a beautiful sight. The sunshine felt wonderful.

Today is also a special day, since it is the birthday of  my friend in Barcelona, Estrella Esteve.  We met on Flickr ~ Estrella takes incredible photos. To view them, just click here. Estrella also writes a wonderful blog, which thankfully she translates into English so I can read it.
These tulips are for you, Estrella ~ happy weekend to everyone!

  1. Oh, you still have below freezing weather? We are having warm days and frosty nights, but it is wonderful that spring is arriving and so many more people are growing things, around the world, everyone is planting! πŸ™‚

  2. What a beautiful photo of those tulips. The perfect composition — and a bright and cheery way to usher in Spring. I am so glad it’s finally here!

  3. Wow. Estrella’s photos are incredible. There is a radiance and majesty about them. My favourite is definitely The Magic Lake with the horses. I can’t get over how good that photo is!! I am sure you have made her birthday brighter with your wonderful tulips.
I can just imagine you sitting in the garden watching the hoarfrost descend. Must have been like crystals falling from the sky. Magical!

  4. Kate, Even though you’re not yet experiencing the warm Spring weather and seeing Spring’s arrival, your photos are just beautiful. I love your tulips! πŸ™‚ You are a nice friend. I will now look at Estrella’s photos!

  5. Can you believe I had to look up the meaning of hoarfrost?
Estrella’s photos are absolutely wonderful! Thanks for the link.

  6. Happy Spring Kate! Early today I was trying to write on twitter, but then everything disappeared. (I think that the little bird gets a little bit crazy sometimes πŸ™‚ )

  7. Lovely photos and words. Happy Birthday to Estrella. Our spring is also a mix of frost and sunshine. I’m counting the weeks until tulips. We northerners do look for signs of spring. I haven’t seen an ant yet but could understand your joy in seeing one below.

  8. Thanks for dropping by my blog, yes I am looking forward to the warmth of Florida even for a few days. It has been a long winter. Enjoyed reading your blog. Great photos. Even the ant!

  9. It’s wonderful to see all the signs of Spring but she does tend to open the door a little then close it again without coming through! The tulip photos are lovely especially the one on March 5th. I have buds but no flowers yet. Happy birthday to your Spanish friend.

  10. So glad Dee tweeted my post, so that I got to meet you and read your blog. Your photographs are stunning. Thank you for sharing the beauty.
